Join us for an intensive writing seminar at Auschwitz-Birkenau, May 25-31, 2019. During our time in Poland, we will have in depth tours and educational sessions at Auschwitz-Birkenau and in the surrounding area. A detailed itinerary will be sent to participants before the trip. The majority of expenses, including flights, accommodation, admission, and food are covered by Together, Restoring their Names.

Trip requirements for participants include the following:

  • Required in person pre-trip orientation the evening of May 5 at Brandeis University and pre-trip reading, including the entirety of “Auschwitz: The Nazis & The 'Final Solution'“ by Laurence Rees.

  • Pre-trip research project to be presented during the trip.

  • Mandatory writing sessions during the trip. Each participant is expected to produce 3,000 words of writing across four evenings and a number of articles during the trip. Participants will each briefly workshop what they are writing and get feedback from the rest of the group during each of these four sessions.

  • Sharing of writing, photos, and other trip experiences regularly on your own personal social media accounts. Participants must bring a laptop or tablet to write with.

  • All aspects of the trip are mandatory. Any sites visited must be entered. Tours will take the group to extremely emotional locations. Each day of the trip will require several hours of walking, possibly sometimes in light rain or muddy conditions.   Participants need to be prepared to carry on with the itinerary regardless of the weather.

  • After the trip, participants must publish one of their articles in a local newspaper, college newspaper, or other public medium.
